SUMMER SCHOOL 2016

SECOND INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON

Autonomous Control for Reliable Future Networks and Services

OPATIJA, CROATIA

 27th MAY – 31st MAY 2016

Abstract:
Modern society is increasingly dependent on ICT systems that tend to evolve into global systems of systems, providing its services based on virtualization technologies to end users. The paradigm shift to Internet of Services (IoS) provisioned on the interconnected Cloud infrastructures opens up numerous possibilities combining and integrating the functionality of a multitude of services offered by third parties. These services are deployed and provisioned automatically and may form large scale service chains upon end user requests. Current technologies are lacking effective networking management mechanisms to cope with these large scale service chains. Dynamically and autonomously provisioned service chains interconnect computational (compute and storage) resources across system of systems, often transferring unpredictable streams of big data. At the same time, modern software and service engineering approaches offer unlimited innovation opportunities in new and open development environments. In this context the challenge is to guarantee quality and reliability of services satisfying the end users expectations.

Specific topics that will be addressed are:

  • QoS aware Service Composition (incl. performance modelling and prediction)
  • Content Distribution in the Future Internet – Architectures, Traffic and Performance Aspects
  • QoS/QoE Monitoring and Management with SDN
  • Efficient Cloud Management
  • Security & Energy efficiency
  • Open Source for NFV

Organization and dates:
The Summer School is organized as part of the EU COST Action IC 1304 “Autonomous Control for a Reliable Internet of Services” (ACROSS). The Action is focused on development of autonomous control methods and algorithms for a reliable, quality-aware and efficient IoS. The International Summer School will take place from 27th May to 31st May 2016, in Opatija, Croatia.

Special session at MIPRO 2016

The Summer School is co-located with the MIPRO 2016 conference MIPRO 2016. At the conference a special session for PhD students and early-career researchers working in the ACROSS project focus will be organized.   Aim of the special session is to provide the opportunity to Summer School participants to discuss their thesis project idea and early results. We welcome short papers with 6 page limit in IEEE format. Papers will be published in IEEE eXplore and indexed in Scopus database. Please find more information on the following website: http://www.mipro.hr/_Events_/tabid/110/language/en-US/Default.aspx?event=MIPRO2016.CTI-ACROSS

Funding:
Funding is available for PhD students and early-career researchers from Europe. Costs eligible for funding  are travel expenses and accommodation during the Summer School. Meals will be covered by local organization. Note that conference fee can not be covered from the ACROSS project funding. The MIPRO conference fee is 100 EUR for students including the conference banquet and access to all conference events.

Application procedure

Places are limited. Applications will be evaluated by the organizing committee. Up to 40 participants (PhD students and early-career researchers) from COST countries or near neighbor countries (list available at www.cost.eu) can be funded by COST Action IC1304. Other participants may attend at their own expense.

Please send your CV, a short statement of your current research topic and your interest in the summer school, and a supporting letter from your PhD supervisor or, in the case of early-career researchers, from a mentor, to Tihana Galinac Grbac (tihana.galinac@riteh.hr). If you want to request funding from COST Action IC1304 then please state this in your application and provide rough plan of expenses. Any enquiries can also be sent to Tihana Galinac Grbac.
